SPRING AND SUMMER 2012
PREVENT
(Key stage 3/4 -Anti-Extremism)

PREVENT is a new piece of Forum Theatre originally devised with West Sussex County Youth Theatre. The piece begins by showing glimpses into the lives of three young students who all have the potential to become involved in an act of violent extremism for either the Animal Liberation Front, a Right-Wing extremist group or a small group inspired by religious fundamentalism.

The audience is then asked to choose one character from whom they get to see the events that lead up to a small bomb being detonated in busy family restaurant.

Following the play a workshop provides the opportunity for the audience to question the characters and explore the motivations behind their behaviour. The cast also forum the main scenes with the audience, taking advice and acting out alternative, more positive outcomes for the characters.

It’s aim is to engage staff and students on how to support disenfranchised, alienated students who are at risk of being politically radicalized toward violent extremism.
