Raging, a play by Dawn Garrigan based on the stories and experiences
of young people in Orchard Lodge Secure Unit. It offered a creative
approach to issues around crime, loyalty and friendship. A community
drama worker provided an eight-week residency for a selected group
of young men at Orchard Lodge to explore their own personal histories
and the choices they had made in regard to offending and anti-social
behaviour. This material was used as a starting point for a touring
theatre in education piece at key-stage 4. The performance was supported
by a post-show workshop facilitated by the cast that explored with
the audience the reasons behind crime and anti-social behaviour.
The tour finished with a performance back at Orchard Lodge so that
the participants could see the full extent of how their work has
been shaped by a professional company. This project was funded by
London Arts through the Regional Arts Lottery Program (RALP).
